étant nostalgique

Woke up with sorethroat cum period sickness, I chose to watch Amelie and take a day off from office.
Such a beautiful movie, Audrey Tatou was really pretty playing this good do-er Amelie.
I like the scene when her goldfish committed suicide…

In the afternoon, after lunch, tried to off for work, yet no strength to keep the spirit up, I decided to drive back—a bit dizzy—and tuck under my blanket.

It’s been like December these past fewdays.
Monsoon rain every afternoon in Bandung, with such a bad drainage no question if within minutes streets were flooded.
Plus the explosion of final dumping ground of Bandung at Leuwigajah early March, many garbage dumps all over Bandung were left stacked up.
My bro told me it happened once in New York decades ago, same issue, methane explosion. Looking for that news on internet but haven’t found any, maybe Bandung can learn something out of that.
It’s been weeks with smell of garbage all over cities. Disaster.

Today is my replying emails day.
Haven’t replied for ages to some old friends, I hope they still consider me exist.

Here a short article to prepare for tomorrow April Fools Day

There are several explanations for the origin of April Fools' Day, but here is the most plausible one. April 1st was once New Year's Day in France. In 1582, Pope Gregory declared the adoption of his Gregorian calendar to replace the Julian calendar and New Year's Day was officially changed to January 1st. It took awhile for everyone in France to hear the news of this major change and others obstinately refused to accept the new calendar, so a lot of people continued to celebrate New Year's Day on the first of April – earning them the name April fools. The April fools were subjected to ridicule and practical jokes and the tradition was born. The butts of these pranks were first called poisson d'avril or April fish because a young naive fish is easily caught. A common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke. This evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continues on the first day of April.

Felt a bit nostalgic today,
Run into my files and documents from Delft, found several mementos

Muntok - Old Lady with Trace of Beauty and Charm part 2

Walk the City, then you will get the soul… ...and you may find more hidden beneath... Filled with otak-otak and es kacang, we continued our walk around Old Muntok. Few houses from Petak 15, there is a weird signboard : " Lorong Babi" . We laugh at the funny words in the beginning and follow the direction it shows. We found a newly built kiosk in a dead-end narrow alley. In there, 3 men are selling pork. They were smiling and told us to come in. I asked them if this place is new and they approve. "We are moved here when they (the government) move the old market to the new one across the river" I could see the new market from their stall…across the river. All of you are not joining the others to the new market? "No, this is the location for us" I didn't ask further. It is clear to me. Johannes Widodo, our Keynote Speaker, coined "Meeting Pot" for Muntok. According to him, differences for centuries manage to live side by side in...

(Supposed to be) Last day with JICA Mamminasata

this was taken just before we left. Some local staff had left, so here was I, only lady in the party. on my right is the team leader, left is the deputy team leader. My only aim was to finish my leftover tasks from Mr. Koizumi and Mr. Watanabe’s Decree (well it’s Presidential Decree Draft, not his decree..but whatever) I have to transfer some of tasks to other people, since today is my last day. I did that. Eventually, Ibu Itha asked me to accompany Mr. Koizumi (our team leader which I always afraid of) to ASKINDO (Cocoa Association of Indonesia). This was my first time to be with him and in fact my first time to have conversation with him after 10 months working with this study team. I am really grateful that I had that chance. He is an extraordinary humble person with rich experiences in his professional life. Just like the story of his 30 years old leather suitcase that he purchased in Rome and still accompany him everywhere he goes around the globe. He might looks old with his grey...
