Married to Oncom

What do you wanna be for your next life?
Huh?
What do you wanna be for your next life? Vegetable or Fish?
Huh?? I don't really believe in next life.
I prefer to be human being, just like now.
Well, you only have those two choices.
Hmmm....Fish maybe.
Why? I wanna be tomato.
What? How come?
I love tomato, it is red, pretty, I love tomato.
Well...I like tomato too, they are pretty red, yet I never think to be one.
Fish is better at least it can move.
Ja, agree.
It just pretty strange, that you like something and then you wanna be that thing!
Well, at least it is better then be married to that thing...
what?
There's a friend of mine that really in love with something like fermented soya bean.
Tempe?
No...something with strong smell
Oncom?
What is that...anyway, I don't know what's the name is. But It is...fermented soya bean with strong smell...
And?
Well this friend of mine really likes that thing that he would be happy to be married to that thing.
Married to an oncom? what a strange thought.
hmmm...we can understand it in this way.
He likes that strong smell, which means he likes to have a wife with strong smell...
Now that is even more ridiculuous, thou not impossible.
Well, for me, I prefer guys that smell good. Well, he doesn't need to be perfumed at least he has no strange smelly body odour.
Anyway that is out of point.
Well, ok. but you see, my friend is much terrible than me, he would like to do something that is most unlikely possible.
I only want to be tomato, for my next life.
Ok...so maybe next time i'll see you as part of this sambal? ah....there you are.

this is the fish. delicious to eat, so I don't wanna be one of them...I love to be me.

Muntok - Old Lady with Trace of Beauty and Charm part 2

Walk the City, then you will get the soul… ...and you may find more hidden beneath... Filled with otak-otak and es kacang, we continued our walk around Old Muntok. Few houses from Petak 15, there is a weird signboard : " Lorong Babi" . We laugh at the funny words in the beginning and follow the direction it shows. We found a newly built kiosk in a dead-end narrow alley. In there, 3 men are selling pork. They were smiling and told us to come in. I asked them if this place is new and they approve. "We are moved here when they (the government) move the old market to the new one across the river" I could see the new market from their stall…across the river. All of you are not joining the others to the new market? "No, this is the location for us" I didn't ask further. It is clear to me. Johannes Widodo, our Keynote Speaker, coined "Meeting Pot" for Muntok. According to him, differences for centuries manage to live side by side in...

(Supposed to be) Last day with JICA Mamminasata

this was taken just before we left. Some local staff had left, so here was I, only lady in the party. on my right is the team leader, left is the deputy team leader. My only aim was to finish my leftover tasks from Mr. Koizumi and Mr. Watanabe’s Decree (well it’s Presidential Decree Draft, not his decree..but whatever) I have to transfer some of tasks to other people, since today is my last day. I did that. Eventually, Ibu Itha asked me to accompany Mr. Koizumi (our team leader which I always afraid of) to ASKINDO (Cocoa Association of Indonesia). This was my first time to be with him and in fact my first time to have conversation with him after 10 months working with this study team. I am really grateful that I had that chance. He is an extraordinary humble person with rich experiences in his professional life. Just like the story of his 30 years old leather suitcase that he purchased in Rome and still accompany him everywhere he goes around the globe. He might looks old with his grey...
